Nudey Beach is regularly named among Australia’s most beautiful beaches — and the snorkelling right off its shore is just as special. Here’s how to make the most of it.

Why Nudey Beach Is So Special
Despite the cheeky name, Nudey Beach is a family-friendly stretch of coral-fragment sand backed by rainforest, with a fringing reef you can reach directly from the shore — no boat required.
What You’ll See Underwater
Expect colourful coral, tropical fish, giant clams and, if you’re lucky, sea turtles. It’s one of the most rewarding shore-based snorkels on the Great Barrier Reef.
Gear: Hire or Bring Your Own
You can hire snorkelling gear on the island or bring your own mask, snorkel and fins. A rash vest offers sun protection and warmth. See our What to Pack guide for a full checklist.

Safety and Tides
Snorkel at higher tides for easier reef access, always swim with a buddy, and be mindful of marine stingers in the warmer months — check our weather and conditions page first.

Make a Day of It
Combine your snorkel with a hike or a glass bottom boat tour, and see everything else on our Things to Do page. Staying over? Check accommodation options.
